DOMESTIC HEATING - Ecodan Dashboard
We have now launched a new website, the Ecodan dashboard (www.dashboard.mitsubishielectric.co.uk); that demonstrates the effectiveness of the Ecodan domestic air source heat pump in the UK. The dashboard, which is designed to be easy-to-use, shows real data gathered from properties around the country that are using the Ecodan system.
For each monitored site, the dashboard gives an overview of the system, detailing the age and type of property. You can then drill down further and see how the unit is performing at any time of the day, week, month or year, and see the running costs, CO2 emissions and energy consumed, when compared to gas and oil systems.
We understand that air source heat pumps are still new to a lot of people and this dashboard is designed to be as open and transparent as possible so that homeowners can see the results for themselves, whether it is in the height of the summer or in the depths of the winter.
The dashboard currently gives an overview of four properties:
3-bed semi-detached home in Bedfordshire, built in 2008
3-bed semi-detached home in Hertfordshire, built in 1955
4-bed detached home in Bedfordshire built in 2000
- 5-bed detached home in Northumberland, built in 1999
The properties use a mixture of the three Ecodan models (5kW, 8.5kW and 14kW) working with both radiators and under-floor heating to demonstrate how the systems can work best.
End users can quickly see the annual performance of each property. In addition, the dashboard shows the average outdoor and indoor temperatures and the highest and lowest outdoor temperatures during any given period.
Installers can also access advanced data, showing the energy in and out, the flow temperature and rate of the system, the COP (Coefficient of Performance), and the indoor and outdoor temperatures over a specified period, which can be altered from last week, last month, last year or last season.
Advanced access will also be given to our partners, for example housing associations, who have allowed their properties to be monitored.

These figures should only be used as a guide to indicate how well an Ecodan air source heat pump can perform if the system incorporating that heat pump is designed, installed, commissioned and operated correctly.
Installation of an Ecodan air source heat pump as part of your home's domestic heating system may not achieve this optimal level of performance.
Performance will be affected by the level of home insulation and build type. Performance will be affected by system design including appropriate design selection of heating system components such as the hot water cylinder, thermal efficiency of radiators/pipework, the external physical location of the Ecodan heat pump and operational settings i.e. how you use the heating system.
